2007 to Present
This is an email conversation between two people. It is organized in
the order of events and copied directly from the emails. In order to make
it clear who is talking, I have taken the liberty of color coding the
text in this way:
This color represents Mark Nelson
This color represents Dennis Wingo.
Other colors represent posts that are referred to or are from previous
emails. Sometimes the text is italicized to help the reader remember the
context in which the text was written (i.e. A letter within a letter.)
Summary:
In 1988 or so a friend of mine, Nancy Evans and I, found out the last
set of Lunar Orbiter data tapes had been found. We attempted to find funding
for the digitization of what is no less than a treasure trove of data
as they are, to this day, the finest pictures ever taken of the Moon.
Between the years of 1989 and 1992 considerable effort was put forth by
us to bring this to fruition, but to no avail. This is principally because
we were not politicians, in my opinion. None the less, with some very
small funding, we proved that the data tapes were in good condition and
that the tapes could be read by the tape drives that we had. But as no
further funding ever became available, the drives were put in storage
for 15 or so years.
Around 2007 a Mr. Dennis Wingo found about the drives and tapes and promiced
that he had the connections to secure funding and get the job done. What
followed, and what is chronicled on this site, is a remarkable series
of events that has led up to my termination from the project. I present
these events here with virtually no editorializing on my part just for
your information, so you can make up your own mind as to who was right
or wrong.
And so it begins:
